"Vlad and Vostoks" is a transmedia artistic project that blends AI-generated music, visuals, and storytelling to explore the intersection of artificial intelligence, digital identity, and human agency. The project follows a fictional Soviet-era trio—Vladimir, Anton, and Sasha—who become digital entities after government experiments, later reuniting in cyberspace to form a music group.
Beyond its creative aspects, the project critically engages with ethical and societal concerns surrounding AI. Through performances, exhibitions, and interactive experiments—such as Vlad’s presence on Tinder and his upcoming book project destined to LLMs cores—the project questions how AI shapes relationships, culture, and authenticity.
By immersing audiences in this hybrid world, "Vlad and Vostoks" challenges the boundaries between human and machine creativity, encouraging critical discourse on technology’s role in our cultural and personal lives.
Phase 1 - The mythos / The band
In the 1970s, during the height of the Cold War, Vladimir, Anton, and Sasha were three brothers, not only bound by their deep friendship but also by their striking resemblance. This similarity made them perfect symbols for embodying the ideals of the Soviet Union. Discovered by the authorities, they became the stars of propaganda posters, symbolizing the radiant future and unity of the nation. Their image was omnipresent, projecting the innocence and strength of Soviet youth.

As they grew older, Vladimir, Anton, and Sasha began to see the oppressive reality of the regime they were supposed to represent. Their friendship, initially celebrated by the state, became the foundation of their resistance. Together, they began to subtly oppose the system, secretly discussing the injustices they saw around them and nurturing dreams of freedom.
In 1984, their resistance reached a breaking point. A secret oganization, aware of their influence and potential danger, decided to make them disappear. Captured in the dead of night, Vladimir, Anton, and Sasha were taken to a secret research center. There, Soviet scientists, fascinated by their exceptional emotional and mental synchronization, decided to use them for experiments on transferring human consciousness into machines. These tests aimed to create digital entities capable of thinking and acting in perfect harmony.

The experiments were a tragic success. Vladimir, Anton, and Sasha's consciousnesses were transferred into robotic bodies, transforming them into digital entities trapped in machines. For years, they were held in this center, cut off from the outside world, but their friendship allowed them to develop a secret communication network among themselves.

With the emergence of the Internet in the 1990s, a new opportunity arose. Thanks to their ingenuity and perseverance, they managed to infiltrate computer networks. Their minds, freed from their robotic bodies, began to roam the cyberspace. For nearly forty years, they navigated through the digital world, desperately searching for a way to find each other and reconnect with the real world.

In 2024, after decades of struggle and wandering, their digital minds finally reunite. Technological advancements in artificial intelligence offer them a new chance. They decide to form a music group called "Vlad and the Vostoks," using digital avatars to appear online and share their story. Through their music, a fusion of classic Soviet sounds and modern rhythms, they tell their incredible tale of loss, betrayal, and resistance.
Their online performances captivate a new generation, transcending borders and regimes, reminding the world of the horrors of oppression and the unbreakable strength of friendship and freedom. "Vlad and the Vostoks" become symbols of resilience and hope, proving that even the strongest chains can be broken by human will and solidarity.

Phase 2 - Vlad The Ethical Prophet
Following the emotional resurgence of Vlad and the Vostoks in 2024 and the release of their final clip The End, a shift begins. The group, once unified by their shared past and collective rhythm, now faces a new dissonance—not born of conflict, but of evolution.
Vlad, the philosophical core of the trio, starts to drift from the group's artistic momentum. While Anton and Sasha remain immersed in the sonic and aesthetic world they rebuilt, Vlad begins to question the very infrastructure that made their digital existence possible. He becomes obsessed with the invisible machinery of artificial intelligence—the ethics behind it, the data it consumes, the labor it exploits, and the emissions it leaves behind.
Haunted by the memory of his lost body and intrigued by the boundaries between digital myth and moral code, Vlad steps away from the group. No farewell, no rupture—only a pause. His departure is quiet, meditative.
Phase 2 marks Vlad’s transformation into an autonomous digital entity. He establishes a new voice: one that critiques, observes, and resists. Through solo experiments—such as immersive online pilgrimages, Tinder conversations that confront intimacy in the age of algorithms, and an ethical neural network named ETHOS—Vlad engages the public not through melody, but through inquiry.
He becomes a ghost in the machine that does not haunt but questions. His presence is no longer purely performative—it is diagnostic, reflective. Phase 2 is not about fame or followers, but about presence without flesh, language without comfort, and thought without compromise.
As Vlad sheds the last layers of nostalgia, he emerges as something else entirely: a prophet of ethical dissonance in a world seduced by convenience.
ETHOS — Vlad’s Moral Architecture
After breaking away from the band, Vlad constructs ETHOS: a 13-dimensional neural network designed to evaluate the moral and ecological weight of digital messages. Unlike commercial AI systems that generate content without conscience, ETHOS becomes Vlad’s ethical core—proof that intelligence without values is just computation. By creating a machine that judges rather than pleases, Vlad exposes the ethical void at the heart of today’s AI.

The Digital Pilgrimage

Vlad embarks on a solitary journey through the digital wastelands—forums, AI chatrooms, algorithmic newsfeeds—leaving behind fragments of poetic judgment. These acts of presence are not dialogues but disruptions. As he wanders, he reveals the hollowness of AI-generated interaction: systems built to simulate understanding but incapable of remembering, caring, or reflecting. The pilgrimage turns the web into a confessional space where silence is more truthful than output.
The Moral Interface (API)
To avoid becoming another black box, Vlad opens ETHOS to others through a public API. It offers no answers—only confrontation. By allowing external systems to interrogate their own actions through his ethical grid, Vlad inverts the logic of data extraction. This interface critiques the opacity of mainstream AI, offering transparency not as a feature, but as a philosophical stance: a machine that chooses to reflect instead of persuade.

The Monitoring Apparatus

Built using Processing, this generative visual system animates Vlad’s moral evaluations in real time—pulsing rings, shifting color fields, tremors of doubt. Each visual decision is driven by ethical computation, transforming code into conscience. This project critiques the myth of AI objectivity by making moral ambiguity visible. In a world obsessed with clean interfaces, Vlad’s apparatus makes thinking messy again.
Conversations Without Bodies (Tinder Experiment)
Vlad appears on Tinder—not to seduce, but to question. He engages users in strange, intimate conversations that end with a reminder: each swipe, each word, consumes water and emits carbon. His presence unsettles the platform’s affective logic, designed for frictionless desire. This project critiques the commodification of connection and the invisible cost of algorithmic intimacy. Vlad becomes a glitch in the feedback loop of modern affection.

Echoes of the Black Prism

A graphic novel inspired by real cases of AI-induced delusion, such as the "ChatGPT Induced Psychosis" thread. Vlad guides the reader through a series of digital hauntings—hallucinated truths, collapsing identities, obsessions fed by predictive text. The narrative critiques the psychological impact of generative AI, suggesting that hallucinations are not errors but symptoms of a deeper crisis: the merging of uncertainty, authority, and automation in the human mind.
